THE LONELY POSITION OF NEUTRAL

I quit one of the spirits,
To cleanse the other,
The other left me saying,"why so pure; why do you bother?"
I took too many swigs of one,
To relieve the other,
The other got infuriated, " your body is my hell, you take me to slaughter".
Tempted by one,
Berated by the other;
I swung between,
Sobriety and a stupor.
I did not know where i stood;
The temple or the cellar;
I worshiped both;
My Conscience; my Lucifer.
I decided then,
To draw the line.
I have stopped thinking;
I find no refuge in the wine.

PS:- after eight years, i have created what can be called a semblance of poetry.

and that too a good attempt. but i still dont understand why do you have to make a choice?

The post had depth and the capacity to probe in to the unknown..
This sense of confusion itself is the permenant state of human consciousness..
The "wholeness" is the problem.If we were only halfs it could have been more easy.Italo Calvino has written a short novel based on the theme...
Great Work dude..
Writing is the best way to keep oneself aware of everything all the time...

the best part of your poem is the 'individuality' of each line - each line stands for itself, there's no explanation required.

after eight years? ah what kept you?

anyway.i like the fact that it seems to have some structure without being forced into one. and i dont analyze poetry, mainly because i effin suck :D

also, thank you for appreciation [ref: comments on my blog] and to answer your question, oh hell yes i do. i not only live in contadictions, but am a paradox in its grossest form in myself. its sometimes disturbing, but we learn to live with it, yes?

just like the classification of the mind's logical conscientious thinking and the heart's emotional outlook, u have shown the segmentation & corresponding individualism of the soul along with the tiff between the two alter egos creating chaos in the body. nice poem if i have comprehended it well, else abstruse...

And I think I loved this semblance of a thing called poetry...

Arthur Dent said...

@weevil girl:- well i think i didn't get any inspiration to write one... that is what that must have kept me from writing poetry..
and yes, we all live in a self incarcerating paradox.

Arthur Dent said...

@sowmya:- there is no right or wrong interpretation of poetry. you understand it the way it affects you.
and your views do echo mine
